Eric W. Hickey is Professor Emeritus at California State University, Fresno, former Dean of the California School of Forensic Studies, and a leading academic voice in the study of serial murder. Biography — Eric W. Hickey
Eric W. Hickey is faculty in the Master in Criminal Profiling at Evidentia University of Behavioral and Forensic Sciences. He is Professor Emeritus at California State University, Fresno, former Dean of the California School of Forensic Studies at Alliant International University, and is currently a core faculty member in a doctoral Forensic Psychology program in the United States.
His academic training includes a Bachelor of Science from Brigham Young University (Provo, Utah), a Master of Arts from the University of Alberta (Canada), and a PhD from Brigham Young University. Recognized in 2014 by an international survey as one of the top 30 active forensic experts in the world, he has reportedly interviewed more serial killers than any other academic and is widely cited for his behavioral and statistical research on serial murder. He served as consultant to the FBI UNABOM Task Force and to the American Prosecutors' Research Institute, and continues to assist local, state and federal law enforcement on training, investigations and cold case review.
He is the author of Serial Murderers and Their Victims (7th edition, 2016, Wadsworth-Cengage), a widely used text in university programs and law-enforcement training that analyses the lives of more than four hundred serial murderers and the cultural, historical and behavioral factors that shape them. His expertise has been featured in numerous documentaries on History Channel, NPR, 20/20, A&E Bio, Oxygen, Reelz, GMA, CBC, TruTV, Discovery, TLC, CNN and others.
