Biography

Javier Sanz Sierra is a criminologist specialized in cyberintelligence and artificial intelligence applied to human behavior. At Evidentia University of Behavioral and Forensic Sciences he serves as CISO (chief information security officer) and CTO (chief technology officer), and teaches on the faculty. For about ten years he has worked at the meeting point between behavioral science and the analysis of the digital trail, guided by one idea: today's criminologist investigates the physical scene as much as the trace people leave in cyberspace.

Beyond the classroom, his work is operational. He is a Security Director accredited by Spain's Ministry of the Interior and a court-appointed expert witness in technology-related crime, and has worked as a corporate intelligence consultant in risk analysis and reputational-crisis management. That double footing, academic and operational, shapes the way he teaches: the cases he brings to class come from real investigations, not from textbooks.

At Evidentia he teaches subjects that connect behavior with technology: Negotiation Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence and Human Behavior, Cybervictimology, Indirect Personality Profiling in Cyberspace, Social Engineering, and OSINT in Fraud Investigation. They share a single thread: reading human behavior through the data it leaves in digital environments.

His research centers on cyberintelligence, cyberbehavior and artificial intelligence. He is a member of the GRICCI research group and of the Behavior & Law Research Group, and a peer reviewer for the Behavior & Law Journal. His work in that journal includes “Strategic Dilemmas of Predictive Criminology: A Prospective Analysis for Spain” (2025), co-authored with Adrián Rodríguez, and he is co-author of a chapter on OSINT and cyberintelligence applied to fraud detection in the Manual Operativo del Metaprotocolo SAVE (Behavior & Law Ediciones). His output extends to journals such as Quadernos de Criminología and Derecho Penal Contemporáneo, and to chapters in edited volumes on artificial intelligence, predictive criminology and criminal behavior.

He collaborates with Maldita.es on the verification and analysis of disinformation, and has served as an evaluator across four editions of the Citizen Participation Training Plan run by Spain's Directorate-General of the Police. He is a regular speaker at criminology and cyberintelligence congresses, from the CONESCRIM Networking Conferences, where he is an Honorary Member, to international victimology symposia, where he tends to turn theory into hands-on exercises and gamified challenges.

What he offers students is a current, applied reading of crime: how synthetic identities behave, what a digital footprint reveals about the personality behind it, and how far a language model can, and cannot, be taken inside an investigation. An approach that asks for rigor with sources and verification of facts before fascination with the tool.
