Biography — Jaume Masip

Jaume Masip is Guest Speaker in the Master in Nonverbal and Deceptive Behavior at Evidentia University of Behavioral and Forensic Sciences. He is Associate Professor in the Department of Social Psychology and Anthropology at the Universidad de Salamanca (USAL), where he regularly teaches Legal Psychology and conducts an active research program on the detection of deception.

He obtained his PhD in Psychology from Universidad de Salamanca in 2002. His main research area is the detection of deception — particularly in investigative and legal contexts, but also in everyday-life settings. His work focuses on verbal and nonverbal detection of deception, police officers' lie-detection accuracy and biases, linguistic and verbal cues to deception, the Behavior Analysis Interview (BAI), and investigative interviewing to detect deception. He has conducted several empirical studies examining police officers' accuracy and bias in judging veracity and is co-author of major reviews on credibility assessment based on verbal cues. Adjacent research interests include police interrogation, false confessions, investigative interviewing, and judgment and decision-making in legal contexts. His publications appear in peer-reviewed venues including the Scandinavian Journal of Psychology.
